Clikeman, Corbosiero Lead Richmond at Spider Open

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. -- It may not have been ideal racing weather, but the Spiders Cross Country team had a strong showing in the season opener. Sophomore Miles Clikeman and senior Amanda Corbosiero led the way for Richmond while the women won the meet with 25 points and the men took second with 59 points. Overall the Spiders recorded seven top-10 finishes.
Corbosiero bested the field by seven seconds to win the two-mile race in a time of 10:55.8. The Spiders locked up fifth through seventh place with seniors Kylie Regan (11:09.1) and Shelby Cain (11:10.9), and freshman Caroline Robelen (11:11.5). Sophomore Claire Brown, who had a strong freshman campaign, logged a top-10 finish at 11:18.2 while junior Colleen Carney (11:20.7) and sophomore Eryn Mills (11:30.1) rounded out the scoring for the Richmond.Â
Clikeman finished second in the men's 5K race, crossing the line at 15:19.2, just nine seconds behind William and Mary's JP Trojan, who won the race at 15:10.1. Senior Johnny Hogue notched a top-10 finish with a time of 15:27.2. In his debut race for the Spiders, Noah Yuro clocked a 15:53.0 for 16th place while sophomores Will Alpaugh and Seamus Otto finished at 16:30.1 abd 16:55.6, respectively.Â
The Spiders will return to action on Friday, September 15 when they travel to Cary, N.C. for the adidas XC Challenge.Â
