University of Richmond, Va. - The Spider women's soccer team opens its season with a home contest against JMU Sunday night at 7 p.m. at First Market Stadium. The Spiders return eight starters, two of whom were All-Conference selections.

"We are really excited to get our season underway. We have had a very demanding pre-season, and we've made a lot of progress. It will be great to test ourselves," said Coach Peter Albright.

The Spiders look to avenge last year's 1-0 loss to the Dukes.

"JMU presents a huge challenge: they are talented, extremely athletic and very experienced. They were a 2007 second round NCAA tournament team, and they are very well coached. Challenges like this, if successfully met, can help launch the season in the right direction. We look forward to the competitive opportunity of a very difficult test," said Albright.

The Spiders boast a veteran squad, comprised of six seniors and eight juniors. Senior midfielder Jessie Wolfe will undoubtedly be a key presence on the field. Wolfe netted five goals and two assists to lead the team in the 2007 season. Wolfe was also an A-10 First Team, and A-10 All-Tournament Team selection. The defense will rely on a strong backfield in seniors Julia Bizer and Susan Boyer.

"This is the opening event of the 2008-09 year for all UR Spider athletic teams, and we are expecting a big turnout and a great atmosphere to kick off the school year. We expect an exciting, physical contest," said Albright.
