
Spiders' 4x400m Relay Team Sets New School Record in Final Day of Fred Hardy

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Spiders wrapped up action at the 13th annual Fred Hardy Invitational with three individual wins, five top-three finishes and one new school record in the 4x400m relay.
The Spiders took home the top three spots in the 800m race with Maria Acosta leading the way in a time of 2:09.71. Brooke Fazio was second at 2:11.86 and Marisa Ruskan rounded out the top three in a time of 2:13.15. Both Acosta and Fazio registered ECAC qualifying times. Marshea Robinson notched a top-10 finish crossing the line at 2:19.03.
The Spider relays shined in the second day of action as both the 4x800m and 4x400m relay teams picked up wins. The 4x400m team of Haley Berkeley, Robinson, Acosta and Fazio broke the school record with a time of 3:44.97. The previous record of 3:48.71 was set in 2013.
The 4x800m relay team (Claire Brown, Caroline Robelen, Peyton McGovern and Julia Willcox) turned in the fastest time of the day at 9:22.19. The 4x100m relay team of Towe, Berkeley, Robinson and Rowe took second just one second behind La Salle at 48.26.
Richmond also claimed four of the top-five spots in the 3,000m race with Eryn Mills (9:49.27) and Colleen Carney (9:57.08) leading the way. Kylie Regan (10:08.60) and Courtney Thompson (10:10.17) finished fourth and fifth respectively. Both Mills and Carney turned in times that qualify them for the ECAC Championship.
Berkeley and Liz Montague notched top-10 finishes in the 100m hurdles with times of 15.79 and 16.38, respectively. Berkeley also finished fifth in the 100m dash at 12.52 while Nai'lah Rowe (12.69) and Morgan Towe (12.79) and Zenia Vrakas (14.04) logged top-15 finishes.
In the 400m race, Chloe Smith represented the Spiders clocking a time of 1:04.89 to finish eighth overall. Towe led the Spiders in the 200m dash crossing the line at 26.58 which Rowe just behind her at 26.65. Smith and Vrakas also competed in the event and finished with times of 28.97 and 29.82, respectively.
In the field events, Montague took fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4.99m.
On the men's side, Alex Lucking won the 3,000m race as he turned in the fastest time of the day at 8:27.53. Noah Yuro (1:58.82) was 12th overall with teammates Seamus Otto (2:00.87) and Will Alpaugh (2:01.84) finishing in the top-30 in the non-Division I 800m race.
The Spiders will return to action next week at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg.
