Herbert Hash was a multi-talented athlete who played basketball, baseball, and was also a high jumper on the track team. He was a three-year letterman in basketball and a member of Richmond's 20-0 team in 1935. He earned three letters in baseball as an outfielder and pitcher and posted a 13-4 career record. He later played professionally in the Boston Red Sox organization including time in the major leagues in 1940-41. His lifetime major league stats are 38 games with a record of 8–7, a 4.98 earned run average, 3 complete games, 1 shutout and 4 saves in 128? innings pitched.
At the time of his death in 2008, at the age of 97, Hash had been recognized as the fourth-oldest living former major league ballplayer, and the second oldest former Red Sox player.
