Spider Performance: Personal Success

Individual well-being is a strategic priority for students at the University of Richmond. Our Spider athletes feel a sense of belonging and thrive as part of a healthy, happy campus community.
Spider Performance help ensure personal success in variety of ways.
Mental Health: Richmond Athletics provides licensed mental health clinicians, screeners, and education for Spider teams and student-athletes. Mental health is a key component of overall well-being and performance, and preventative and pro-active measures ensure that Spiders prioritize their mental health at all times.
Well-Being: The Richmond Well-Being Center is integrated with our Athletics facilities and is dedicated to total well-being, including a mind-body studio, Student Health Center, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Student-athletes are also taught practical skills — grocery shopping, self-care, establishing a healthy environment — that set them up for a lifetime of well-being.
Personal Leadership: Programming helps Spiders determine their own leadership skills and provides a path to allow them to leave Richmond with the confidence and capabilities to lead in any potential circumstance. Our graduates are proud representatives of the University — Once a Spider, Always a Spider.
Belonging and Inclusion: Richmond Athletics provides an environment where everyone feels welcome, accepted, and included. More than 175 student and affinity groups allow Spiders to find their community and help foster a sense of belonging.
Community Engagement: Spider student-athletes participate in volunteer programs individually and as a team. Hosting clinics for youth athletes, providing services to those less fortunate, and visiting local schools are just some of the ways Spiders engage directly with the greater Richmond community.
