Thomas G. Theodose

Thomas Theodose was a two-sport standout for the Spiders. Â He was a key member of the football and track squads from 1952-55. He played quarterback and defensive back on the football team and was an All-Conference and All-State selection. He established the school record for the longest pass interception return, going 95 yards with a pickoff in 1955 against Davidson. Â He was a pole vaulter on the track team.
Following graduation from Richmond, Theodose became a highly successful high school football coach. From 1959 to 1979 he was the head coach at Lane High School, with an overall record of 144-57-8, including 19 winning seasons.   Nicknamed "The Golden Greek" he presided over a 53-game unbeaten streak from 1962-1967, the longest streak in the nation at the time. His 1963 team went 10-0 and captured the Virginia State championship. The '63 team is widely recognized as the first integrated team to win a state title. Theodose, who played four sports as a student at Lane,  is also a member of the Virginia High School Hall of Fame.Â
