Spiders Finish In A Tie For Seventh Place At The ODU/Seascape Collegiate Tournament

KITTY HAWK, N.C. - The University of Richmond men's golf team concluded its 2000 fall campaign finishing in a tie for seventh place with Campbell at the two-day, 20-team Old Dominion University/Seascape Collegiate Tournament on Tuesday with a 24-over-par total of 600. Contested at the par-72, 6,115-yard Seascape Golf Course, senior Joe Horowitz (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) paced the Spiders by shooting a four-over-par 148 (71-77=148, +4) to tie for 19th place.
Virginia Tech captured the tournament title, posting one-over-par 577 and Hokie Brendon De Jonge claimed individual medalist honors, firing seven-under-par 137.
For Richmond, sophomore Steve Lessing (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) carded rounds of 72 and 77 to close play in a tie for 24th place at five-over-par 149. In addition, senior Bryan Stark (Herndon, Va./Herndon) tied for 42th place with an eight-over-par 152 (78-74=152, +8), while junior Ryan McLain(South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) finished at 12-over par 156 to tie for 59th (81-75=156, +12). Junior Wes Turiano (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) concluded tournament play in a tie for 65th place at 13-over-par 157 (76-81=157, +13).
With his finish, Horowitz completed the fall season with a Richmond-best 73.2 scoring average.
