UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Richmond junior Cordell Roane (Richmond, Va.) earned Atlantic 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Spiders' 35-21 loss to Hofstra on November 3.
Starting his fourth collegiate game at quarterback, Roane ran his way into the Richmond record book. In addition to being the most rushing yards ever by a Richmond quarterback, Roane's 246 yards on the ground ranks second on UR's all-time single-game list. Barry Redden set the all-time mark with 280 yards against Penn on Nov. 26, 1981. Roane's 37 rushing attempts tied for sixth on UR's all-time list.
The Varina High product, added 156 passing yards to account for 402 total yards on the afternoon, tied for second on Richmond's all-time single-game list. Buster O'Brien holds the program record with 447 total yards against Ohio on December 27, 1968.
After eight games this season, Roane leads the team with 678 rushing yards (84.8 yards/game). He is averaging 5.1 yards/carry and has scored three rushing touchdowns on the season, two in Saturday's loss to Hofstra. His 62-yard touchdown run in the second quarter was the longest scoring play for Richmond this fall.
The Spiders (2-6, 2-4 Atlantic 10) will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 when they travel to Delaware. The game will be televised by CN 8 (Delaware) and WUPV, UPN-65 (Richmond).
