UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond freshman Ashley Bell etched her name into the Richmond record book to highlight the Spiders' first indoor meet of the 2001-02 season at the University of Maryland/Potomac Valley Invitational on December 8.
Competing in her first collegiate meet, the Glen Allen, Va., native broke the Richmond record with a 9.32 in the 60-meter hurdles and tied the all-time mark with a 36'03" in the triple jump. Her leap matched Aimee Tait's jump in 1994.
Sophomore Cortney Henschke (Rye, N.H.) also set a school record, clearing the bar at 8'11.75" in the pole vault. She held the previous mark at 8'6".
Also highlighting the women's side was sophomore Julee Wilson's third-place finish in the long jump. The Chester Spring, Pa., native leaped 19'00" and placed third.
The men's team earned three top-10 finishes. Senior Jeff Wilburn (Bridgewater, Va.) placed sixth in the high jump with a leap of 6'02". Sophomore David Blanchard (Richmond, Va.) placed 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.42.
The Spiders return to action at the George Mason Invitational on January 12, 2002.
