Football Senior Jonathan Wilfong Earns All-America Honors

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond senior defensive end Jonathan Wilfong earned 2001 Sports Network I-AA All-America Second Team honors it was announced today.
The Bridgewater, Va., native led a Richmond defense that ranked 11th nationally. The Spiders yielded just 279.82 yards per game, 87.09 on the ground (seventh nationally). The Richmond defense also allowed 17.18 points per game, which ranked 13th in the nation.
Individually, Wilfong tied for the Atlantic 10 lead with 9.5 sacks and ranked seventh with 16 tackles for loss. He led the defensive line and ranked sixth on the team with 62 total tackles.
A First Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree, Wilfong led the team with three recovered fumbles and made his lone interception of the fall in the season opener, at Virginia on Sept. 1.
Last fall, senior offensive lineman Eric Beatty earned Sports Network All-America Second Team honors.
The Spiders (3-8, 3-6 Atlantic 10) completed their season on November 23 with a 35-7 win against Massachusetts.
