Mergenthaler Wins CAA Women's Javelin Throw

Richmond, Virginia - Senior Sarah Mergenthaler (Colts Neck, N.J.) won the women's javelin throw to highlight Richmond's second day of competition at the 2001 Colonial Athletic Association Track & Field Championships at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia. Merganthaler recorded a throw of 40.90 meters, which qualifies for ECAC/IC4A. The Spiders are allowed to compete in individual events, but will not figure in the team scoring.
Senior Tamika Williams (Southampton, Bermuda) was second in the women's 800 meter run (2:11.07). Sophomore Sherry Sikora (Succasunna, N.J.) was third in the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:30.80). Freshman Cortney Henschke (Rye, N.H.) was second in the women's high jump (1.59 meters). Sophomore Cathleen Campbell (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) was fifth in the women's high jump (1.59 meters). In the women's shot put, sophomore Rachel Shrewsbury (Dearborn, Mich.) was second (13.53 meters), which qualified for ECAC/IC4A. Freshman Diane Schreiber (Johnsonburg, Pa.) was third (12.66 meters) and freshman Lauren Trout (Goose Creek, S.C.) was fourth (12.33 meters). Trout was second in the women's discus throw (39.87 meters), Shrewsbury was fifth (37.56 meters) and Schreiber was sixth (36.65 meters). Schreiber was also fifth in the women's javelin (36.44 meters).
Junior Justin McElfish (Woodbridge, Va.) was second in the men's shot put (15.27 meters), which qualified for ECAC/IC4A. He was also third in the men's discus throw (44.26 meters). Freshman Chris Martin (Austin, Tex.) was third in the men's javelin throw (48.96 meters) and sophomore Josh Fralick (Sarasota, Fla.) was fourth (47.98 meters).
