Spiders Finish Ninth At Lonnie D. Small Memorial Tournament

Buies Creek, N.C. - The University of Richmond golf team finished tied for ninth out of 12 teams at the Lonnie D. Small Memorial Tournament at the Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C. The Spiders shot 296 for the second round after an opening day score of 305. Richmond finished at 601, 16 strokes behind the leader, UNC Wilmington.
Senior Joe Horowitz (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) had Richmond's low score, shooting even-par 72 for the second round after registering a one-over-par 73 in the first round. Horowitz finished tied for sixth at 145, three shots behind the individual leader. Junior Mark DiGiacomo (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) was tied for 18th at four-over-par 148 (75-73). Senior Bryan Stark (Herndon, Va./Herndon) and junior Ryan McLain (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) each finished at 10-over-par 154. Stark (79-75) and McLain (78-76) tied for 47th. Sophomore Steve Lessing (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) finished with a score of 159 (79-80).
Richmond will participate in the Liberty University Spring Classic on April 9 and 10 at the Water's Edge Country Club in Lynchburg, Va.
