Richmond Throwers Excel at Mason Spring Invitational

Fairfax, Va. - The University of Richmond had several good showings this past weekend at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
In the field events on the men's side, sophomore Justin McElfish (Woodbridge, Va.) took second place honors in the shot put with a throw of 49' 2 1/2" and third place in the discus with a throw of 145'6". Junior Josh Fralick (Sarasota, Fla.) garnered a second place finish in the javelin toss with a personal best throw of 169'6".
Freshman Lauren Trout (Goose Creek, S.C.) won the women's discus setting a new school record with a throw of 137'11". Senior Sarah Merganthaler (Colts Neck, N.J.), in her last competition in her collegiate career, captured first in the women's javelin throw (124'8"). In other field events, sophomore Cathleen Campbell (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) finished second in the women's high jump, tying her own personal and school best mark (5'5). Freshman Julee Wilson (Chester Springs, Pa.) finished the season with a third place showing in the long jump (19'1 1/2"). Assistant coach Angela Bertholdt throwing unattached won the women's shot put with a throw of 47'10 1/2".
