Golf's Steve Lessing Earns Another Top-25 Finish

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior Steve Lessing earned his second consecutive top-25 finish - and sixth of his career -- when he carded a three-round 218 (73-74-71) to tie for 16th at the Xavier Provident Invitational in Grizzly Course Mason, Ohio. The Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. native led the Spiders as they finished 16th on the par-71 Kings Island Golf Course.
Richmond fired a 307-302-298-907 at the event. Wright State won the team title after shooting a one-over-par 853 (290-280-283). Xavier (third) and Saint Joseph's (17th) were other Atlantic 10 schools that competed in the Xavier Invitational.
Junior Sam Sikes finished second on the Spider squad in his first collegiate event of the season. The Huntsville, Ala. native fired a 76-74-78-228 and tied for 73rd. Senior Kyle Hess (Buffalo, N.Y.) shot a three-round 231 (79-77-75), while sophomore Steven Sherck (Statesville, N.C.) carded a three-round 233 (79-80-74). Freshman Tyler Randol (Lawrence, N.Y.) also competed for the Spiders and fired a three-round 238 (81-77-80).
Wright State's Jesse Hutchins won the individual medal with a 12-under-par 201 (68-69-64). Xavier's Miles Mailet (70-63-72-205) finished second.
The Spiders return to action at the Georgetown Hoya Invitational in Leesburg, Va. from Oct. 27-28.
