Rain Shortens Xavier Invitational, Men's Golf Seventh

MASON, Ohio - Heavy rains forced the cancellation of today's final round at the Xavier Provident Invitational, leaving the University of Richmond men's golf team tied for seventh (288-284-572), its best finish of the 2003-04 season.
Senior Kyle Hess led the Spiders and tied for seventh after carding a three-under-par 139 (70-69), lowering his season scoring average to 72.5. The Buffalo, N.Y. native's 69 in the second round at the Kings Island-Grizzly Course was a season-low.
Freshman John Pelet continued his outstanding start by firing a one-under-par 141 (70-71) and tying for 16th. He lowered his team-best scoring average to 71.0 after 11 rounds. Senior Steve Lessing tied for 42nd after shooting a 74-71-145. His second-round 71 was a season low.
Also competing for the Spiders was sophomore Tyler Randol (74-73-147/T-50) and junior Steven Sherck (75-77-152/T-85).
Richmond returns to action at the Big 5 Invitational in Mason, Ohio from Oct. 18-19.
