UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.-Senior Edda Gardarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) records her third goal of the year to advance the University of Richmond women's soccer team to a victory over Xavier tonight at First Market Stadium. The Spiders improve to 6-6-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Atlantic 10 play, while the Musketeers fall to 6-7-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the conference.
Richmond opened up its offensive attack in the fifth minute after Gardarsdottir scored off a free kick to lead the Spiders into halftime, 1-0. Senior Molly Rettig (Hummelstown, Pa.) added an insurance goal at 81:30 after she converted on a pass from freshman Alex Twellman (Chesterfield, Mo.).
The Spiders outshot the Musketeers 18-4. Senior goalkeeper Megan Cox (Raleigh, N.C.) registered two saves, while Xavier keeper Andrea Garber made seven on the night.
Richmond hosts Dayton at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 19th.
