Three Spiders Honored By Virginia Golf Coaches Association

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond men's golf coach Kevin Lynch earned Virginia Co-Coach of the Year while senior Kyle Hess and freshman John Pelet earned All-State First Team honors it was announced recently by the Virginia State Golf Coaches Association.
In only his third year as Spider head coach, Kevin Lynch led his program to four top-5 finishes including a team title at the Hoya Invitational during the 2003-04 season. Richmond fell a few strokes shy of an Atlantic 10 Championship but did fire a tournament-low 286 in the final round. The Spiders also posted a second-place finish at the Kingsmill/William & Mary Invitational and a third-place finish at the Big 5 Invitational.
Senior Kyle Hess saved the best for last, tying for third and earning All-Conference honors at the Atlantic 10 Championships after shooting a 219 (71-75-73). In 13 events, Hess ranked second on the team with a 74.1 scoring average and posted three top-5 finishes and five top-10s. He tied for the team lead with nine sub-par rounds, including a season-low 69 in the second round of the Xavier Invitational.
Freshman John Pelet burst onto the college golf scene and led the Spiders with a 73.9 scoring average in 33 rounds. He carded a season-low 68 in the first round of the Kingsmill/William & Mary Invitational where he finished fourth. It was one of six top-10 finishes and three times that he led Richmond at an event. He tied for seventh at the Atlantic 10 Championships after carding a 223 (76-76-71), his third-round 71 being his ninth sub-par round of the season.
