Jim:
My wife participated in a panel discussion following the conclusion of the 02-03 basketball season and was very pleased to see that UR implemented one of her two suggestions regarding the men's basketball program, namely making different players accessible to children following the game. Do you have any plans to implement the other suggestion, the installation of a video scoreboard, which suggestion was unanimously well received by the other panel members? It is our understanding through the purchase of a video scoreboard for the JMU football stadium that such improvements are paid for in large part through advertising revenue. Thank you for your time.

Jim's response:
Dear Vijay:
Thanks for your question and I appreciate your wife's participation in last year's information-gathering discussions. They were very helpful. Our postgame autograph sessions with men and women's basketball were extremely popular, and I'm sure they will return this year.
I have received several inquiries regarding a new scoreboard for the Robins Center, as well as other facility renovations.
A new scoreboard is now a top priority for the Robins Center, which has seen upgrades to the floor, locker rooms, coaches' offices and seating in the past three years. We are actively reviewing designs and features of a new scoreboard that will enhance the fans experience and satisfy the needs of teams and officials.
We are also in the process of meeting with potential corporate partners and friends of Spider athletics to help fund the new scoreboard and audio system. And, you are correct, once the scoreboard is fully-funded and in place, it will begin paying for itself and generating income, as other corporate sponsors attach their name to it and partner with Richmond athletics.
Our Spider Athletic Initiative is the driving force behind raising the necessary funds for this project and others - the FieldTurf at First Market Stadium, the on-campus football facility, further renovations for Pitt Field, just to name a few.
Please visit RichmondSpiders.com regularly for news stories and photos of the projects. I will also keep you informed of our progress with updates on Ask The AD.
Thanks again for your interest, and please enjoy two complimentary tickets to a Spider home athletic event courtesy of Ask The AD.
