Men's Golf Tied For 13th In Opening Event

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - University of Richmond freshman Billy Hanes led the Spiders and is tied for 23rd after shooting a two-over-par 146 (73-73) at the Mid Pines Intercollegiate this afternoon. The Spiders are tied for 13th overall after shooting a 601 (302-299).
Senior Steven Sherck and freshman Jordan Utley are tied for 50th after two rounds at the Mid Pines Inn and Golf Course. Sherck improved dramatically from a first-round 78 with an even-par 72 in the second round. Utley shot matching 75s in his first collegiate rounds.
Senior Sam Sikes shot a 155 (76-79) while sophomore John Pelet carded a 163 (82-81) in the first day of the fall season.
Wichita State leads the event after firing a 567 (287-280). The Shocker's Derek Smith is tied with East Carolina's Adam Howell with a four-under-par 140 on the first day.
