Spiders Finish Action At Virginia Tech Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The University of Richmond track and field squad wrapped up action at the Virginia Tech Invitational Saturday afternoon in Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, Va.
The women had six finishes among the Top-20 in four respective events. Juniors Danielle Eaton (2:20.38), Diana Morse (2:21.33) and Amy Thesing (2:21.95) finished the 800 meter 16th, 17th and 18th, respectively. Eaton and Thesing each set season best with their performances.
In the distance events, freshman Kate Merrill picked up a 13th-place finish in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:18.56.
Senior Ashley Bell took home a 14th-place honor with a long jump distance of 5.45 meters. In another field event, sophomore Lindsey Smith recorded a distance of 12.22 meters in the shot for 14th place.
On the men's side freshman Hunter Willis garnered a 24th-place finish in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:03.50, while sophomore Rusty Burrell (29th) turned in a season best time of 52.79 in the 400 meter.
The Spiders will be back in action next weekend when they travel to the North Carolina Blue Heaven Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Meet action will begin Friday, Jan. 21, and will wrap up Jan. 22.
