Spiders Record Season Bests At Penn State Invite

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The University of Richmond track squad picked up a number of personal bests at the Penn State National Invitational Friday and Saturday in State College, Pa. Senior Ashley Bell was the highest placer for the Spiders, earning a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 38-10.25.
Junior Danielle Eaton (2:17.20) finished 10th in the 800 meters with the fastest time of the season for the Spiders, while junior Amy Thesing recorded a personal best in the distance, 2:18.48, to place 14th.
Junior Diana Morse picked up a seventh-place finish in the 1000 meters with a personal best of 2:56.88.
Junior Nicole Kurtain (10:12.88) and freshman Kylee Schuler (10:33.88) placed 15th and 20th, respectively in the 3000 meters. Kurtain's time was the fastest this season for the Spiders and Schuler's was a personal best.
Freshman Kate Merrill ran the 5000 meters for the first time this season and placed 11th with a time of 17:43.94.
The men's squad had several new faces compete for first time this season. Spider football players freshman Arman Shields, junior Ryan Mace and senior David Freeman made the trip to Pennsylvania for Richmond.
Shields (7.11) and Mace (7.16) competed in the 60 meter prelims and recorded a 23rd and 26th-place finish, respectively. Mace and Shields later teamed with Freeman in the 200 meters. Mace placed 17th with time of 22.64, Shields ran a 22.87 for 22nd place and Freeman garnered a 25th-place finish in 23.03.
Sophomore Rusty Burrell ran the 500 meters for the first time this season and placed 25th with a time of 1:08.71. Freshman Jonathan Molz (2:32.58) garnered 25th place in the 1000 meters.
Junior John Ciccarelli capped the weekend off for the Spiders with a 22nd-place finish in the 3000 meters. The South Bury, Conn., native ran the event for the first time this season in 8:33.11.
