PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Richmond men's golf team is in Philadelphia to play in the Big 5 Invitational at the prestigious Philadelphia Cricket Club, the nation's oldest country club.
This is the third tournament in the past two weeks for the Spiders, who finished fourth at last weekend's Macdonald Cup in New Haven, Conn. The Spiders had a chance to have qualifying this week after playing for the same team in the last two tournaments.
Sophomore Jordan Utley (Richmond, Va.), senior Tyler Randol (Lawrence, N.Y.), freshmen Tim Courtney (Midlothian, Va.) and David Feeley (Phoenix, Md.), and sophomore Billy Hanes (Elma, N.Y.) will be playing for the Spiders.
Utley leads the team with a 71.1 stroke average and is coming off a second-place finish at the Macdonald Cup. Randal also finished in the top 10 at the Macdonald Cup, taking eighth.
Courtney, who has shot under par in three of his eight rounds this season, is second on the team with a 72.9 average. Feeley, like Courtney, has played in all four events as a freshman and placed 26th at the Macdonald Cup. Sophomore Billy Hanes (Elma, N.Y.) will be playing in his first tournament of the season. Hanes played in 10 tournaments last year as a freshman, including a 40th place finish at the Big 5 Invitational.
The 36-hole event opens Saturday and continues with the second and final round on Sunday afternoon at 12:30.
