UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
Jim,
With all the attention focused on various universities and their scoring on the recently released NCAA academic ratings, how did UR and the various A-10 schools fare?

Pat:
On February 28, the NCAA released new statistics regarding scholarship student-athletes and their success in the classroom. The new formula is called the Academic Progress Report (APR). This new method gives us more up-to-date information, rather than the old formula that consisted of a school's four-year class during a six-year period.
I am proud to report that the University of Richmond is one of just two schools in the state in which student-athletes exceeded the NCAA requirements in every sport. Overall, we are third highest in Virginia and fifth in the Atlantic 10.
These numbers confirm the hard work and dedication to academics of not only our student-athletes, but of our coaches, academic and athletic support staff.
You might be interested to know that the Spiders registered a 971 score. It's a little difficult to know exactly what that means, but, to put it into perspective, the Division I average is 948 and the average for private Division I institutions is 965. The NCAA will require a score of at least 925 for a school or program to avoid losing scholarships. If you would like to read more about the APR, please
