WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After holding a slim two-stroke lead heading into today's final round, the Spiders were pushed to a playoff by host William & Mary after the Tribe carded a final-round 306 to match Richmond's two-day total of 602 (294-308). William & Mary's four low scores on the designated playoff hole, the par-4, 429-yard fourth, bested the Spiders by one stroke and gave the Tribe the 2005 William & Mary Invitational title.
Senior Steven Sherck led the Spiders but fell from the top of the leaderboard with a final-round 77 on Monday. Sherck led the event after shooting a one-under-par 71 at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Course but finished fourth with a 148.
Boston College's Alex Snickenberge captured the individual medal with an even-par 144 (73-71).
Freshman Chris Bagley garnered the Spiders' second top-15 finish, tying for 13th with a 152 (73-79). He was followed by sophomore John Pelet (77-76--153/t-20), freshman Billy Hanes (80-76--156/t-36) and junior Tyler Randol (73-84--157/t-40).
The Spiders return to action at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in Pinehurst, N.C. on March 28-29.
