UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond Department of Athletics will hold its third annual Food and Supply Drive this Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ukrop's Super Market in The Village Shopping Center on the corner of Three Chopt Road and Patterson Avenue.
Sponsored by Richmond's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.), the event will collect donations for Pennies From Heaven, a local non-profit organization that helps underprivileged and homeless people in Richmond.
"This is a good, honorable event that is a great opportunity for student-athletes to get out of the campus bubble and help the community we are living in," said Beatrice Grasu, a sophomore tennis player and executive member of S.A.A.C. "This is an annual event that we all look forward to because we have such a good relationship with Pennies From Heaven. We want to give back to the community that supports the Spiders."
The following items are needed the most: toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant and shampoo. Other items include diapers, sanitary pads, body lotion, shaving cream, disposable razors, soap, canned meats and stews.
Several Richmond student-athletes will be at Ukrop's this Saturday to accept the community donations.
