Spiders Finish Sixth At Pinehurst

PINEHURST, N.C. - A third-round 301 on Tuesday gave the Richmond men's golf team a 907 (303-303-301) at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate and placed the Spiders sixth in the 12-team field. Senior Steven Sherck and freshman Chris Bagley led Richmond and tied for 10th after carding a 224 at the par-72 Pinehurst #8.
Sherck, who has earned three straight top-10 finishes, shot a 74 on Tuesday after carding consecutive 75s in the first two rounds. Bagley garnered his first career top-10 with his performance (75-72-77).
SMU won the tournament title by shooting an 875 (292-294-289) in the two-day event. They finished one stroke better than runner-up Xavier (307-282-287--876) who made a charge during the final two rounds.
The Mustangs' Colt Knost surged to the individual medal with a three-under-par 69 on Tuesday. His 210 (71-70-69) was one shot better than Indiana's Jeff Overton (69-70-72--211).
Richmond junior Tyler Randol tied for 22nd with a 229 (78-77-74), while tying with Sherck for the lowest third round. Freshman Billy Hanes (78-79-76--233) and sophomore John Pelet (75-79-81--235) rounded out the Spiders' card.
