HOT SPRINGS, Va. - The Richmond women's golf team slipped to fourth after shooting a final-round 325 on Sunday at the 2005 CAA Championships played at The Homestead. Sophomore Ashley Lambert was one of three Spiders to crack the top 10, finishing seventh with a 231 (74-77-80).
The Spiders were second after two days, but compiled a 952 (308-319-325) at the par-72 course. James Madison defended its title by shooting a 923 (304-316-303), seven strokes better than runner-up Xavier. The Dukes' Kiley Bishop captured the individual medal (73-78-73--224) after winning a playoff.
"Although we did not have the result we were looking for today, I am still very proud of everything this team accomplished this semester," head coach LaRee Sugg said. "This week we once again proved that we can compete with the most established and accomplished teams in our conference. We definitely earned everyone's respect and made it known that Richmond golf will be a force to reckon with in the near future."
Freshman Natasha Lopez Moreira was the Spiders' low player in the third round and tied for 10th overall with a 237 (75-83-79).
Juniors Lauren Ritter (86-81-84--251) and Lesley Monachino (93-88-82--263) also scored for the Spiders.
All-Conference honorees will be announced at a later date.
