Russell Breaks 10K School Record At Duke Relays

DURHAM, N.C. - Sophomore Amanda Russell shattered the Richmond outdoor track and field 10K record by almost 15 seconds this weekend at the Duke Relays in Durham, N.C. The North Bay, Ontario, native turned in a time of 35.07.09 to also provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Senior Ashley Bell went 38-04.25 in the women's triple jump to place sixth and tie her own school record in the event. The jump also marked a season best for the Glen Allen, Va., native. Senior Jennifer Coles finished with a season-best time of 26.53 in the 200 meter Friday afternoon. Her fastest previous time this season (27.20) came at the Fred Hardy Invitational.
Sophomore Nicole Erby and junior Danielle Eaton finished 22nd and 23rd, respectively in the 800 meter. Erby turned in a 2:14.01 and Eaton finished with a 2:14.35 in her first 800 meter competition of the outdoor season. Junior Diana Morse broke her season-best in the 1500 meter run by almost four seconds with a 4:40.39 to place 40th in the event.
Five women took part in the 5K Friday afternoon, junior Nicole Kurtain ran a 17:39.47, freshman Kate Merrill turned in a 18:11.74, freshman Shelby Faircloth set a personal best with an 18:44.40 and freshman Diane Kenaston broke her personal best time by more than 30 seconds with a 19:05.61.
On the men's side freshman Ryan Jobes set a new personal best in the 800 meter with a 1:55.12 to place 12th. He also ran the anchor leg of Richmond's 1600 meter relay where he turned in a personal best split of 48.50 in the 400 meter distance.
The 1600 meter relay came in 21st with a season-best time of 3:22.96. The squad comprised of senior Brett Walton (49.90 split), freshman Adedayo Oladejo (52.7 split) and sophomore Rusty Burrell (51.4 split) added Jobes anchor split to best the team's previous time this season by almost four seconds.
Freshman Neil Slotterback recorded a personal best in the javelin with a 161-01 (49.10m). The throw was more than nine feet better than his previous best. Freshman Jonathan Molz competed in the 3000 meter steeple for the first time in his career and came in 29th with a 9:50.33.
The team will continue its outdoor season next weekend at the Lou Onesty Invitational, April 16, in Charlottesville, Va.
