Women's Golf Ties Match With William & Mary

TOANO, Va. - The University of Richmond women's golf team opened the 2005-06 season with a match against in-state rival William & Mary on Sunday at The Tradition Golf Club at Stonehouse.
Each school sent two teams out on the course and the Richmond "Blue Team" tied the William & Mary "Gold Team" with score of 320. The William & Mary "Green Team" was one stroke back at 321 and the Richmond "Red Team," playing with four players, shot a 341.
Richmond's two freshmen, Rosario Germino (Necohea, Argentina) and Julia Nouss (Saint Louis, Mo.), tied for medalist honors, each shooting 77s.
Junior Ashley Lambert (Bradenton, Fla.) was two strokes back with a 79 and senior Whitney McComis (Bridgeport, Texas) had an 81. Sophomore Ally Caffrey (Rumford, R.I.) shot an 83 and senior Lesley Monachino (Shaker Heights, Ohio) had an 84.
"The girls stuck to their game plans and managed themselves on a challenging placement golf course," Richmond head coach Leighann Rastede said. "This was a great opportunity to gain some competition experience before the tournament season starts."
The Spiders' first tournament of the 2005 fall season is Sept. 12-13 at the Cougar Classic in Charlestown, S.C.
