Spiders Set To Team With Central Virginia Foodbank And Scouts To Scout For Food

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond has teamed with the Central Virginia Foodbank and Heart of Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts of America to conduct a fall food drive at the Richmond-JMU Homecoming football game, Oct. 28 at UR Stadium.
Richmond area Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Venture Scouts will be stationed at the entrances to the stadium to collect food items and cash donations for the Central Virginia Foodbank. Kickoff between the Spiders and Dukes is slated for 3 p.m., and gates to the contest will open at 1:30 p.m.
Items collected at the UR Stadium gates will be used to feed hungry children, elderly, working poor, disaster victims and other area residents. Fans are encouraged to bring high protein non-perishable food items including: peanut butter, canned meat, chicken, fish, canned vegetables, fruit & beans, boxed pastas & rice, and hot & cold cereals.
All fans bringing food items or cash donations of $5 or more will receive vouchers good for complimentary admission to the Richmond Spider men's basketball season-opener against East Carolina, Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Robins Center.
The first-ever homecoming food drive kicks off the largest single community food drive in Central Virginia, "Scouting for Food." At the conclusion of the football game, Scouts will be handing out grocery bags which can be filled and left out for home collection by the Scouts on "Scouting for Food" Saturday, Nov. 11.
The Scouts will also have membership available during the game for youth interested in the Scouting experience.
