
Women's Golf To Compete At Conference Championship

PINEHURST, N.C. - The University of Richmond women's golf team will compete in the 2006 Colonial Athletic Association beginning Friday at Pinehurst No. 6.
The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days at Pinehurst No. 6, with Richmond playing its first round of 18 beginning at 12:40 p.m. on Friday. The Spiders are the third-highest ranked school in the nine-team field at 112, according to Golfstat's computer rankings. The Spiders will play alongside Georgia State (No. 56) and UNC-Wilmington (No. 62).
The five players that are representing Richmond at the CAA Championship are seniors Lesley Monachino and Lauren Ritter, junior Ashley Lambert, sophomore Alex Latimer and freshman Rosario Germino.
Lambert finished seventh at the 2005 CAA Championship, helping the Spiders to a fourth-place finish as a team last spring. This is the fourth CAA Women's Golf Championship and the Spiders boast a pair of fourth-place finishes and a runner-up finish in 2004.
"This is a ball-strikers golf course and our players are all good ball strikers," Richmond head coach Leighann Rastede said. "We played well in today's practice round and the team has a great feeling going into the tournament."
The team's will be re-paired for Saturday's second round based on how they stand after Friday. Results will be available here at RichmondSpiders.com at about 9 p.m.
