UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -
For the second consecutive year, the Richmond athletic program has cracked the prestigious Top- 100 among Division I institutions in the final U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup standings. The yearly standings recognize collegiate institutions with the best overall athletic programs.
The Spiders finished 95th overall, and 12th among the 117 Division I-AA football schools. Both rankings were identical to the Spiders' finish in last year's standings, which marked the first time Richmond appeared in the Top-100.
"This outstanding performance is directly attributable to our student-athletes, coaches, athletic administrators and University's commitment to our goal of successfully competing for conference championships and NCAA post-season honors," Richmond Athletics Director Jim Miller said. "Coupled with the fact our student-athletes consistently rank among the top-five percent of all Division I institutions in graduation rate, the University of Richmond truly has a model intercollegiate athletic program."
The Spiders earned Director's Cup points in seven sports. Men's golf earned an at-large berth to the NCAA East Regional. An unprecedented six teams won Atlantic 10 titles including football, field hockey, women's swimming & diving, women's lacrosse, and men's and women's tennis.
