UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Richmond senior Ashley Lambert shot a 3-over-par 75 as the Spiders shot a 320 in Sunday's final round of the Nittany Lion Women's Invitational to move up one spot and finish seventh out of 14 teams.
The Spiders finished the tournament at 973 after rounds of 327, 326 and Sunday's 320. Richmond was in eighth place entering the final round, but finished 12 strokes ahead of eighth-place Boston College.
"We played better today, we stuck with the game plan," Richmond head coach Leighann Rastede Albaugh said. "Yesterday we got ahead of ourselves, we thought too much about the outcome and scoring, instead of just taking it one shot at a time."
Richmond sophomore Rosario Germino led the Spiders with a 14th-place finish at 22-over-par 238 (79-76-83) on Penn State's par-72, 6,300-yard Blue Course. Germino was in fourth place entering the final round.
Lambert shot the Spiders' best round of the tournament Sunday with her 3-over 75 that moved her up into a tie for 18th at 24-over 240. Freshman Victoria Kidder tied for 32nd at 245 (81-83-81), freshman Lauren Folgosa tied for 44th at 252 (85-86-81) and freshman Anne Sprick tied for 49th at 253 (84-85-84).
Richmond returns to action on Saturday and Sunday at the Kentucky Wildcat Invitational, before hosting the Spider Fall Invitational, Oct. 16-17.
