Young And Crawford Post Runner-Up Finishes At Maryland Invitational

LANDOVER, Md. - Sophomore Jessica Young finished second in both the 200-meter dash and 60 dash as the Richmond indoor track & field teams had their first competition after winter break on Saturday at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational.
"We had a good day," Richmond director of track & field Lori Taylor said. "There was nothing spectacular, but most people were right where we expected them to be."
Young ran the 200 in 24.83 and ran the finals of 60 dash in a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7.42 seconds, after having the fastest time in the preliminaries (7.48).
Freshman Kristen Crawford was second in the shot put with a personal best toss of 44-feet-8 3/4. Freshman Amy Van Alstine placed sixth in the mile run in 5:15.15.
Sophomore Jasmine Major placed eighth in the 60 hurdles in 8.94 seconds, after a qualifying time of 8.91 seconds. Major also took 10th in the 60 dash in 7.83 seconds.
"That's a good effort for her," Taylor said. "That's a good start to the season, she's right at her P.R."
Freshman Megan Ney finished seventh in the high jump, clearing 5-3, was eighth in the long jump, clearing 17-0 1/2, and was 34th in the 200 in 27.37. Sophomore Karen Guthrie took seventh in the 3,000 in 10:34.90 and sophomore Mary Bertram was 11th in the 3,000 in 10:39.05.
Freshman Jasmine Cottle was 12th in the 400 in 1:00.64 and sophomore Stephanie Lapp finished 16th in the weight throw with a toss of 28-4 1/2. Junior Kylee Schuler took 18th in the mile run in 5:33.30 and freshman Alyssa Mankin took 19th in the 800 in 2:27.57.
Junior Tara Markey finished 21st in the 400 in 1:01.95, while freshman Kerry Kelly was 38th in 1:04.61 and 33rd in the preliminaries of the 60 hurdles (9.85).
Freshman Monique Hawkins ran an 8.11 in the preliminaries of the 60 dash and finished 29th in the 200 in 27.02. The Spiders distance medley relay team finished third in 12:29.18.
Richmond's distance medley relay team of Van Alstine, Markey, Mankin and Schuler finished third in 12;29.18. The women's 4x400 realy team of Cottle, Hawkins, Ney and Kelly took 13th in 4:11.02.
On the men's side, the Spiders' distance medley relay team of sophomores Garrett Graham, Jeff Strojny, Sean Welsh and Sean McKinney finished third in 10:31.52.
"That was a great effort from them, the distance medley went well for us," Richmond head men's coach Steve Taylor said.
Sophomore Chris Kondorossy finished ninth in the weight throw with a heave of 37-6 3/4. Sophomore Derek Jensen placed 10th in the 800 in 2:02.05.
Junior Hunter Willis placed 19th in the mile run in 4:38.12, freshman Jon Wilson finished 21st in 4:39.09, and sophomore Dan Petty finished 27th in 4:52.53. Freshman Alex Nourse finished 39th in the 200 in 24.30 seconds and placed 50th in the 400 in 55.27. Strojny was 39th in the 400 in 53.72
