SpiderTV: TOWNSEND TALKS ABOUT HIS VICTORY
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond sophomore Hunter Townsend was named Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Player of the Week after winning the Georgetown Hoya Invitational last Tuesday.
Townsend tied the course record with a 5-under-par 66 in the second round at the Members Club at Four Streams and followed that up with a 3-under 68 in the final round. Townsend went into the final hole down a stroke, but he birdied the 18th to pull into a tie for first at 4-under-par 209 and force a playoff. Townsend, a native of Glen Allen, Va., went on to win in a three-hole playoff, parring all three holes.
His back-to-back rounds of 66 and 68 tied teammate Jordan Utley for the lowest two-round score in school history at 8-under-par. By finishing the Hoya Invitational at 4-under-par, Townsend tied for the best three-round score in school history.
Townsend led the Spiders to a second place finish for the second-straight tournament as they finished at 2-over-par 854 for the tournament.
Richmond is back in action for their final tournament of the fall season on Monday and Tuesday at the ODU/Seascape Invitational at Kitty Hawk, N.C.
