Men's Golf Takes 12th At Rice Intercollegiate

HOUSTON, Texas - The Richmond men's golf team finished its spring 2007 opener with a 12th place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate held Saturday and Sunday at the par-72, 7,184-yard Westwood Golf Club.
Richmond rebounded from two poor rounds on Saturday to shoot a 302 on Sunday and finish the tournament at 943.
Junior Jordan Utley led the Spiders with a 24th-place finish at 231 after shooting a 2-over-par 74 in Sunday's final round. Utley shot a 2-over 74 in the first round, but shot an 83 in the second round.
Junior Billy Hanes tied for 36th with a 236 (77-82-77), while senior John Pelet and sophomore Grant Rafield tied for 44th with 238s. Pelet shot a 76 Sunday after rounds of 82 and 80 on Saturday. Rafield carded a 3-over 75 on Sunday after rounds of 81 and 82. Freshman Hunter Townsend took 71st at 252 (83-89-80).
The Spiders return to action on March 5-6 at the Hargrove B. Davis Classic in Buies Creek, N.C.
