Young Wins 200 Dash At Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. - Sophomore Jessica Young won the 200-meter dash in 24.42 seconds at the Duke Asics Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium.
Sophomore Mary Bertram placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run in 38:12.39, freshman Kristen Crawford finished sixth in the shot put with a heave of 44-10 3/4 and senior Beth Crocus placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 133-7. Freshman Heather Roush finished 15th in the discus with a throw of 135-11 and was 26th in the javelin with a toss of 106-07.
Freshman Amy Van Alstine took 16th in the 5,000 in 17:21.08, junior Kylee Schuler took 18th (17:25.63), sophomore Karen Guthrie finished 25th (17:36.48) and junior Shelby Faircloth was 46th (18:09.87).
Freshman Kerry Kelly took 15th in the 400 hurdles in 1:08.93, while freshman Jasmine Cottle was 21st in the 400 dash in 59.57 and was 30th in the 200 in 26.63. Freshman Alyssa Mankin finished 46th in the seeded 1,500 in 4:52.11.
Freshman Monique Hawkins finished 23rd in the 200 in 26.15, freshmen Megan Ney took 29th in 26.44. Junior Tara Markey was 24th in the seeded 400 in 1:00.44 and took third in the developmental 800 inn 2:20.73.
On the men's side, freshman Andrew Benford placed ninth in the seeded 3,000 in 8:28.62. Freshman Matt Llano took 15th in the seeded 3,000 (8:37.86) and junior Jonathan Molz (8:40.99) was 16th.
Sophomore Sean Welsh won the developmental 1,500 in 4:00.45, while sophomore Derek Jensen took fourth (4:01.99) and sophomore Jeff Strojny was 10th (4:03.43). Junior Hunter Willis finished 35th in the seeded 5,000 in 14:48.03, while freshman Jon Wilson took 70th (15:16.14) and sophomore Mike Stubbs was 104th (15:43.07).
Sophomore Jeff Strojny took ninth in the developmental 800 in 1:58.33 and sophomore Sean Welsh took 12th in 1:58.63. Sophomore Greg Hoffman took 20th in 1:59.78.
