Men's Golf Takes Seventh At Marshall Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.V. - Sophomore Grant Rafield tied for 12th to lead the Richmond men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the 38th Annual Marshall Invitational, held Friday and Saturday at Guyan Country Club.
The tournament was originally scheduled for 54 holes, but was shortened to 36 holes due to poor weather. The Spiders shot a 291 in the second round to finish the tournament at 585, two strokes out of fifth place and four strokes out of fourth place in the 16-team event.
Rafield shot 2-over par 73 in the second round, after a 1-over 72 in the first round on the par-71, 6,476-yard Guyan Country Club. He finished the tournament at 3-over-par 145 in a tie for 12th place, his best collegiate finish and the second time he has placed in the top-15.
Junior Jordan Utley tied for 14th with a 4-over 146 after shooting 2-over 73 in both rounds. Junior Billy Hanes and sophomore Tim Courtney tied for 26th at 5-over 147. Hanes shot a 1-over 72 Saturday after an opening round 75. Courtney shot a 2-over 73 in the second round after a 74 in the first round. Senior John Pelet tied for 71st with a 154 (77-77).
The Spiders return to action April 28-29 at the Andrea Brotto Cavalier Classic at Birdwood Country Club in Charlottesville, Va.
