Rafield Named Atlantic 10 Rookie Of Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond sophomore Grant Rafield was named Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Rookie of the Week after leading the Spiders at the Marshall Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Rafield, in his first year on the team, finished the 36-hole tournament at 3-over-par 145 to tie for 12th, his best collegiate finish. The Birmingham, Ala. native shot a 1-over-par 72 in the first round and a 2-over 73 in the second round to lead the Spiders to a seventh place finish out of 16 teams.
Rafield, who attended high school at Woodberry Forest High in Woodberry Forest, Va., has played in all nine events during his rookie season. Four of his last six rounds have been within two strokes of par.
The Spiders return to action April 28-29 at the Andrea Brotto Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. That will be Richmond's final tune-up before the 2007 Atlantic 10 Championship at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Fla., May 4-6.
