The Second Annual Give Love To Buzz Is Set
07/17/2007 | General
July 17, 2007
RICHMOND, Va. -
Former Spider and professional football player Lawson "Buzz" Montsinger was injured April 30th, 2006 causing him to suffer a severe spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed. The local community came out in droves to show their love and support at the 1st Annual Give Love to Buzz event, held last summer.
This year, the event will be held Sunday, July 22 from 1-6 p.m. in Richmond at Plant Zero. Tickets will be sold at the door for $20 with the goal being a "day of fun" and continued Spinal Cord Injury awareness raising.
Montsinger played at Richmond from 1967-69 and was part of the 1968 Tangerine Bowl championship team. He later played in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys.
Buzz' unbelievable story and journey was captured on the front page of the Richmond Times-Dispatch sports section. Because of the great media, more than 500 people attended the event last year. If you were there last year, you know what a great time it was and this year will be no different. The event has become an annual "reunion" of sorts drawing one of the biggest cross sections of Richmond (past and present) the city has ever seen! Come party the day away with old friends while meeting some new ones!
Entertainment this year will include a special reunion performance by The Joker's Wild (Buzz' highschool band) featuring Buzz and Paul Thomasson on horns, Randy Moss on guitar, Herbie Atkinson on bass, Walter Sheely on keys, Bruce Olsen on drums, Howard Awad on trumpet and Gayle McGee on vocals.
DJ Jeffrey "Smitty" Smith and Buzz will be spinning everyone's favorite tunes throughout the day. Big Daddy will be there offering his brand of bodacious barbecues and there will be cold beverages a plenty!
Thanks to your unbelievable support at last summer's 1st Annual event, Buzz has been able to "survive and thrive" this past year and he can't wait to show you his progress! Spread the word and come out to "Give Love" on July 22nd!
