UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Men's golfer Robert Lindstrom has transferred to the University of Richmond and will be a sophomore eligible to compete in the 2007-08 season, Spider head coach Adam Decker announced.
Lindstrom comes to Richmond after playing his freshmen year at Birmingham-Southern, where he led the Panthers in scoring average (73.4), playing in all 10 events and earning medalist honors twice. The Huntsville, Ala. native posted two top-5, four top-10 and seven top-20 finishes on the year with a low round of 67 on his way to winning the Hal Sutton Intercollegiate. Lindstrom also won Yale's McDonald Cup, tied for ninth at the Buffalo Rock/Southern Showdown and earned one Big South Player of the Week honor.
"Robert has proven himself to be an outstanding college golfer, winning twice in his freshman season," Decker said. "I am happy he has made the decision to join the Spider golf program and I look forward to him having an immediate impact on our team. Along with his golf skills, Robert is an excellent student and will be a great addition to the University."
Lindstrom lettered for six seasons for Tom Runnion at Huntsville High, earning All-Metro Player of the Year honors and in 2005 and 2006. He won the 2005 SJGT Southern Junior Tournament and the 2006 SJGT Huntsville Junior Invitational.
Lindstrom joins incoming freshman Sam Beach of Glen Allen, Va. as the two new Spiders for the 2007-08 season.
