Men's Golf Finishes Seventh In Season-Opening Tourney

MANHATTAN, Kansas - The Richmond men's golf team finished seventh at the Colbert Intercollegiate, the Spiders first tournament of the 2007-08 season.
Richmond shot a 14-over-par 302 in the final round Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 921, two strokes behind sixth-place New Mexico State. The Spiders improved in each of the three rounds, opening with a 312, shooting and 312 in the second round and finishing with the 302 Tuesday.
Sophomore transfer Robert Lindstrom led the Spiders with a 13-over 229 to tie for 20th after shooting a 3-over 75 on the par-72 7,525-yard course. Lindstrom had shot a pair of 77s in both rounds Monday.
Senior Jordan Utley tied for 28th at 232 (80-75-77) and junior Tim Courtney tied for 30th at 233 (81-78-74) after carding the Spiders' best round of the tournament in Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore Hunter Townsend tied for 33rd (76-77-81=234) and senior Billy Hanes tied for 37th (79-80-76=235).
The Spiders return to action Oct. 15-16 at the Frank Landry Intercollegiate in Amherst, Va.
