CHARLOTESVILLE, Va. - Senior Tim Courtney and freshman Brad Miller are part of a five-way tie for second and Richmond men's golf team is in third place after the first round of the Frank Landry Invitational, played Monday at Spring Creak Golf Club.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament was not completed due to darkness and will be finished Tuesday morning, followed by the final round.
Courtney and Miller each shot 2-under-par 70s on the par-72, 7,186-yard course, which puts them two shots behind the leader. Miller, who is playing in his first collegiate event, does not count toward the Spiders score because he is playing as an individual.
Even without Miller's 70, Richmond shot a 2-over-par 290 and is just one shot out of second place and four shots off the lead.
"Both Tim and Brad played extremely well for us today," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We had eight guys playing in this tournament, including the individuals and we had a pretty good first round. Now we have to keep it going."
Junior Robert Lindstrom is tied for seventh at 1-under-par 71 and junior Grant Rafield is tied for 21st at 1-over 73. Sophomore Michael Shrader is tied for 36th at 4-over 76 and sophomore Sam Beach is tied for 71st with an 80.
Joining Miller as individuals are senior David Feeley in a tie for 53rd with a 77 and senior Lawrence Lessing in a tie for 62nd at 78.
