Beach Named Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Player Of Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond sophomore Sam Beach was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after shooting a 3-over-216 at the VCU Shootout, Sept. 29-30 at Hermitage Country Club.
Beach shot a 2-under-par 69 in the opening round, followed by a 3-over 74 and two-over 73 to tie for 33rd in the tournament.
"This is a great honor for Sam," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "He worked hard over the summer and had some tournament success and he's continued his solid play this fall."
The Glen Allen, Va. native is has a 76.0 scoring average through six rounds this fall. He is the second Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the Spiders this fall. Senior Lawrence Lessing won the award after tying for 20th at the season-opening Rutherford Intercollegiate.
The Spiders finished in a tie for 13th at the VCU Shootout. Sophomore Michael Shrader, another local product from Midlothian, Va., also shot an opening-round 69.
Richmond returns to action Oct. 13-14 at the Liberty Invitational to be played at Spring Creak Golf Club in Charlottesville, Va.
