KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Richmond women's golf team is in 13th place after the first round of the Cuthbert Cup, played Sunday at Kiawah Island Resort's Cougar course.
The Spiders shot a 336 in their first round of the spring 2008 season.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament will played on Monday and the third and final round will be played on Tuesday.
Senior Alex Latimer led the Spiders with an 81, which has her tied for 53rd. Sophomore Lauren Folgosa, sophomore Anne Sprick and freshman Christina Gray each shot 85s and are tied for 61st. Freshman Jillian Fraccola shot an 86 and is tied in 65th.
"Everybody played a lot better than they scored today," Richmond coach Leighann Albaugh said. "Nobody was awful, everybody had one or two holes where they made a big number. They're all hitting the ball well, I feel like we're there, but felt like we were nervous today. We were rusty as far as competition goes, but hopefully we can get back in the swing of things tomorrow."
The Cuthbert Cup is a men's and women's tournament taking place at the same time. On Monday the women will play the Osprey course and on Tuesday the men and women will be paired together on the Osprey course.
