KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Richmond men's golf team finished fifth at the Cuthbert Cup after the third and final round was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Spiders, who were tied for first after the first round, shot two strokes better in the second, but dropped to fifth in the tightly packed field. Richmond has finished in the Top-5 in the last four tournaments and has finished no worse than seventh in any tournament in the 2007-08 season.
The Spiders finished three strokes out of first place. UNC-Wilmington won the tournament by tiebreaker over Washington State with each team at 579. The College of Charleston finished third at 580 and Maryland took fourth at 581.
Richmond senior Jordan Utley shot a 1-under-par 71 Monday on the Cougar course and finished tied for 10th at even-par 144. It was Utley's fourth-straight Top-10 finish and his fourth Top-10 finish in five tournaments during the 2007-08 season.
Junior Grant Rafield tied for 14th at 145 after following his first-round 72 with a 1-over 73 on Monday.
Sophomore Robert Lindstrom tied for 16th at 2-over 146 after a 2-over 74 Monday. Junior Tim Courtney shot an even-par 72 Monday and tied for 22nd at 3-over 147. Sophomore Hunter Townsend tied for 59th at 161.
The Spiders return to action on March 10 and 11 at the Louisiana Classics at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La.
