Jasmine Cottle Leads Spiders At CNU Meet, Ney Breaks Record

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Jasmine Cottle won the 400m and captured the bronze in the 200m, leading the Richmond track & field team Saturday at the Blue & Silver Challenge, hosted by Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va.
A sophomore from Pittsburgh, Pa. Cottle finished the 400m in 58.74 to win, while crossing the line in 25.85 to take third in the 200m and lead three Spiders in that event. Jasmine Major was fourth (26.06) and JoAnna Ubiwa was fifth (27.13).
Megan Ney's school record in the triple jump of 11.80m shattered the school's previous mark of 11.68, and led her to a second-place finish in the event. The sophomore also took second in the long jump (5.60m).
Major also ran the 100m and took second (12.53), while finishing fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.12). Marissa White was fourth in the 100m in a time of 12.78 and took fifth in the 100m hurdles (15.23). Stephanie Lapp took fifth in the 100m (13.51) and Ubiwa was sixth (13.72).
Jennifer Ennis captured the gold in the 1,500m two a lead a Spider sweep of the gold and silver medals. Ennis won the event in 4:49.29, followed across the line by Alyssa Mankin in 4:51.55.
Paloma Krakower captured the silver in the 800m (2:17.21).
In the field events, X'auntasia Johnson was fourth in the long jump (4.92m) and third in the triple jump (11.05m),
Samella Koroma was third in the shot put (12.09m), fourth in the discus (36.30m) and third in the hammer (42.07m). Monica Howard was second in the discus (41.27) and fourth in hammer (41.50), while Stephanie Lapp was third in the javelin (26.45).
On the men's side, Michael Schmittlein finished ninth in each the 200m (23.67) and the 400m (55.74).
Jeff Strojny lead five Spiders across the finish line in the 800m with his bronze-medal finish in a time of 1:58.04. Derek Jensen was sixth (1:58.69), Brendan Regan was seventh (1:59.53), Greg Hoffman was eighth (1:59.53) and Sean Welsh was ninth (2:00.13).
Dan Petty took seventh in the 1,500m (4:29.40).
In the field events, Pierre Turner won the silver in both the shot put (13.88m) and the discus (45.67m). Chris Kondorossy was fourth in the shot (12.06m), fifth in the discus (38.11) and seventh in the hammer (38.15m).
Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational
PRINCETON, N.J. - A group of Spiders also competed at Princeton University this weekend, with Kylee Schuler's 17th-place finish in the 5,000m leading the way. Schuler's time of 17:49.33 led four Spiders in the event, followed by Mary Bertram in 21st (17:58.62), Erin Lunny in 25th (18:03.22) and Shelby Faircloth in 26th (18:08.54).
In the 800m, Tara Markey took 23rd with a time of 2:16.14, while Diana Filtz was 49th in the 1,500m in 5:01.82.
For the men, Jon Wilson was 27th in the 5,000 with a time of 14:51.07. He led three Spiders in the event, followed by Hunter Willis in 37th (15:02.90) and Tim Quinn in 48th (15:09.79).
