STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Sophomore Robert Lindstrom is tied for second at 1-under-par 141 and the Richmond men's golf team is in 10th place after two rounds of the Rutherford Intercollegiate played Saturday on Penn State's Blue Course.
In the Spiders last tune up before the Atlantic 10 Championship, Richmond shot a 303 in the first round and a 296 in the second round to finish the day at 599. The Spiders are two strokes out of eighth place, three shots out of seventh and four out of fifth place. The third and final round will be played under a shot gun format Sunday morning.
"We could definitely move up a few spots if we have a solid day tomorrow," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "We need to make a push tomorrow to give us momentum going into the Atlantic 10 Tournament."
Lindstrom shot a 2-over 73 in the first round and then tied his season-low score of 68 in the second round to pull within one shot of the leader. Lindstrom's fifth sub-par round of the year has him 1-under entering Sunday's final round.
"Robert has been playing well lately and he did a great job out there today, especially in the second round," Decker said. "Robert won two tournaments last year at Birmingham Southern, so that experience should help him Sunday."
Senior Jordan Utley is tied for 29th at 9-over-par 151 after rounds of 76 and 75. Freshman Sam Beach, making his collegiate debut, is tied for 38th at 154 after rounds of 78 and 76. Senior Chris Bagley, who was a mainstay in the Spiders' lineup before an injury last year, made his season debut with a 76 and 79. He is tied for 44th at 155. Freshman Hunter Townsend is tied for 55th at 157 (80-77).
