STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Richmond men's golf team struggled through tough playing conditions Sunday, shooting a 325 to finish 10th at the Rutherford Intercollegiate.
The Spiders finished the 54-hole tournament at 924, four shots behind ninth-place Ohio in their last tune-up before the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Spiders had shot rounds of 303 and 296 on Saturday.
"We obviously would have liked to have played better today," Richmond head coach Adam Decker said. "It was a difficult round, but we're just going to have to get back to practice over the next two weeks and get ready for the A-10 Championship."
Richmond sophomore Robert Lindstrom was tied for second, one shot off the lead, heading into Sunday's final round, but shot an 83 to drop into a tie for eight place at 224. Lindstrom had shot rounds of 73 and 3-under-par 68. This was Lindstrom's second top-10 finish of the year and the fifth time in nine tournaments that he has finished in the top-15.
Richmond senior Jordan Utley shot a 79, the only Spider to break 80 on Sunday, to finish in a tie for 26th. Utley had carded rounds of 76 and 75 on Saturday and finished at 170-over 230.
Freshman Sam Beach finished 51st in his first collegiate tournament at 23-over 236 (78-76-82) and sophomore Hunter Townsend tied for 54th at 238 (80-77-81). Senior Chris Bagley, playing in his first tournament of the year, tied for 60th at 241 (76-79-86).
Richmond will play in the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, May 2-4 at Orange County National Golf Club in Winter Garden, Fla. The Spiders finished fourth at last year's A-10 Tournament.
