WALLACE, N.C. - Richmond freshman Christina Gray shot the three best rounds of her collegiate career to finish in a tie for 17th at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational.
The Spider women's golf team finished 14th at 938, four shots ahead of Maryland and 14 shots ahead of CAA-rival Xavier. The Spiders shot rounds of 321, 306 and 311 on the par-72, 6,183-yard River Landing Course.
"We played better, those are the second two lowest rounds of the season for team scoring," Richmond head coach Leighann Albaugh said. "It's a good time to be peaking and we will continue to prepare for the conference championship next week."
Gray followed her career-best 75 in the first round with a pair of 76s in the second and third round to finish at 11-over 227 in a tie for 17th. It was her best-career finish and she was just two shots out of 13th, and three strokes out of a ninth-place finish.
"Christina played well, she was bombing off the tee and then was putting it close with her wedge," Albaugh said. "She was hitting it well and playing well. I'm proud of her and I'm proud of all of them. They were all in a really good place."
Freshman Jillian Fraccola tied for 57th at 235 after rounds of 80-76-79. The second-round 76 tied her career-best round. Sophomore Anne Sprick tied for 64th at 237 with rounds of 84, 2-over 74 and 79.
Sophomore Lauren Folgosa tied for 70th at 239 (82-80-77) and junior Rosario Germino took 89th at 261 (90-84-87).
This was the Spiders' final tune-up before the conference tournament, to be held April 18-20 at the Golden Horseshoe Green Course in Williamsburg, Va.
